If you haven't visited us before, you might
wonder what it's like to live in a nursing home. It's
probably a lot nicer than you imagined. Here we emphasize the
"home"
part of nursing home, to make living in our building feel as
much like everyday life as we possibly can.
When you visit, take in everything you see and hear. You’ll probably get a “feel” for the building as soon as you walk in the front door. Here’s what we mean:
Notice how the staff greets everyone by name with a smile. |
See people visiting with each other, their families, and staff—at all times throughout the day. |
Smell the food cooking for lunch—yes, we ARE good cooks, too! |
Observe how people look you in the eye, talk to you, and treat you with kindness, respect, and compassion. |
Hear lots of prognosticating about an upcoming football game. |
We understand how hard it is to place a loved one in a nursing home, how you might feel guilty that you can’t take care of them yourself anymore. Also understand that we don’t want you to stop taking care of them. It’s best if we can work together—let us help you with the 24-hour care that your loved one needs so that you can enjoy your time together a little more.

Thinking life inside a nursing home might be boring? You might be surprised at how much you see going on around here. Seven of our staff members are Certified Activity Professionals. We’re busy and so are our residents. Here are a few of our residents’ favorite things to do:

Every summer, beginning Memorial Day, we host a weekly picnic at the park. We cook out, enjoying traditional picnic foods like hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken (with all the good picnic side dishes, of course). Ants aren’t welcome, but kids, pets, and families are.

Montrose is known for its Blueberry Festival that happens every August. Our residents wouldn’t miss it for anything. We take residents to watch the parade. It’s a great time for everyone!

Being in a small town has its benefits—and ours include friendly farmers who like to have visitors. Every season there’s something we like to do, whether it’s a hayride, a visit to an apple orchard or blueberry grove, the county fair, or even an afternoon spent at a local fishing hole.

Our residents are big supporters of our local schools. We love to attend holiday shows and Little League baseball games as much as we like hosting school groups who visit us, such as the Montrose Jazz Band

There’s always something going on at MediLodge of Montrose. Cooking classes, craft classes, bible study, evening campfires and weenie roasts, and pet visits to name a few. Entertainment groups come in with a variety of styles. Residents favorites include Bluegrass, Gospel, Country, Old Time songs and Ragtime. Every 4 th of July we feature fireworks in our own backyard. In addition, everyone looks forward to our annual Senior Prom and Senior Olympics. (Go Stingers!)

Everyone needs a little change of scenery once in a while. Our residents love to go shopping, go on an ice-cream cone run, and visit the Detroit or Potter Park Zoos.
Ask the Activity Director for a copy of our weekly calendar of events. Family members and friends are always welcome to participate in any of our activities—your family member would love to see you and we would, too.
